1500cc Dual Carb Knuckle

What makes me most happy about this motor is not the chain driven Wico magneto or the dual carb heads.

And it's not the .540/.540 Leineweber cam or triple valve springs with titanium retainers. It's not the fact that it's got 'pop up' pistons, it's not the big bore cylinders or peek-a-boo cam cover and it's not the dual right side UL flywheels with moved crankpin.

No, the most joy bringing thing about this motor is that it is acctually 100% finished; something that is very rare in my life. Charley did such a flawless job blueprinting the entire engine and today I parkerized and assembled the rocker tins, the very last detail on the whole motor. Hopefully it will go in the frame this weekend. The only bad thing I can think of right now is that the chain driven mag is bolted down with no way to retard it for starting, something that might be a bit interessting on a 91.6" Knuckle with a lot of compression, hopefully the cam's 318 degree duration will make things a bit more comfortable..?

  1. Very nice indeed. I really hope I get to see this in the metal sometime. Two questions though: you didn't fancy twin plugging the heads? That might have had the effect of softening your starting because the ignition could be retarded. Also, no generator = no lights?

Very nice indeed, in case I hadn't already said so :-)

  6. Stoked to see you guys dig the little mill, hey it could never had happend without Charley's genius so I'll make sure to pass on the props to him when I see him. And about dual plug heads, I acctually had a set dual plug/dual carb Knuckleheads when this project started but I choosed not to use them, I'm not too found of the dual plug idea... And the bike will have lights, just no regular generator, I'll post more pics in a bit.

  16. You could give it a few names. A few that come to mind are : Astronomy Domony" because of all of the math, space, timing stuff about this engine, but mostly because I like that Syd Barrett composed song, and everyone knows he was a brilliant madman. Or "E.T.'s twin", because the parkerized knuckle bolts look like eyes with the rest of the knuckle being his face and there are two heads and it's dual carb...
That's cool that you don't even need facial hair and slicked back hair to be cool. You don't post shitty food pictures from fast food restaurants (boring) and you have wit. Keep up the cool stuff here. Thanks, you guys inspire me and I don't even build bikes.
I think the alternate name for the Knuckster could be "Rainman". It's just the oddity of putting the two engines together but it's brilliant. Fucking Genius
